Shipping possessions from estranged family

Anonymous
I have 10+ “xl bins and boxes” that have been at parents house for over a decade. I have an estranged relationship with them. Can’t visit them and they won’t help with logistics. What’s the most seamless and cost effective way to get my stuff? They won’t provide weight/dimensions and won’t help in any way. The transit would be cross country from coast to coast.

Any "stuff" in their house for over a decade is their stuff, not yours. They have every right to just throw it out and are under zero obligation to "help." That's what you get for cutting your parents off.

Yeah, no way you can arrange access to their property without their assistance.

Well gosh. I’ve been through this. At the time, I found a cross country courier service that picked up, packed and shipped across the country for me. It was expensive but looking back, I’m glad I did it.

If that is not an option bc they won’t open the door to a courier, you may just have to get on a plane yourself and hire someone on the ground to come with you and help you take it out and ship. Maybe PODS? FEDEX Freight?

I realize that these are all expensive options, but if you have already made the break through estrangement, you know how much peace of mind matters.

Best wishes.

This is harsh, but true. Will they provide a moving company access? A moving company or courier service of some type is what you are looking for. You've made it a decade without this stuff. Do you really need it?

Not going to happen. Kiss your things goodbye.

What’s in these boxes?

You’ll need to go in person on a prearranged day to load out. Then sort items offsite. Repack if needed and prep for shipping. I’d strongly advise you bring someone cool headed and neutral to pick the items up with. There is no cost effective way to do this other than releasing the items.

+1. There are companies that will pick up and ship your boxes.

You don’t even know OP or her family. Jerk.

And you're wrong. It's not gonna happen. You don't tell people you haven't seen and refuse to talk to for ten years that people are going to show up, come into your house, gather some sh*t, and take it with them. OP doesn't even know where the stuff is at this point.

The only way you’d get your stuff is if they let you in. Seeing how you don’t want that you don’t get your stuff.

Just telling it like it is, bruh.

The relationship with your parents is more valuable than anything that can fit in 10+ xl boxes or bins.
