Oh and get ready for higher food prices because of the Ukrainian war. Those wheat fields ain’t getting planted. It’s coming. But short of appeasing a dictator and the Fed raising rates, I don’t know what else you’d have him do. I’m a Dem and see the writing on the wall. It’s on his watch and the Dems are going to get destroyed this fall. However, I don’t see many easy solutions to these problems (and don’t for a sec think the Keystone Pipeline or the border are the reasons for high energy prices. That project was years away from being complete. Immigration would actually stabilize wages.)

The price of gas was rising steadily under Biden long before Putin invaded Ukraine.

I’m the PP. those lease sales won’t make a bit of difference. Years away from being able to profitably drill even if they find oil. It does not matter or have any impact on current or near term energy prices. What else would you have him do to bring down prices now? He doesn’t control a market where the price is set globally.

Oh I completely agree. Same with releasing the strategic oil reserve. Again there is little the Dems can do in the near term to address oil prices. However, short of pulling aid to Ukraine and letting Russia win, I don’t see what the R’s have to offer.

Of course it won't do anything. Pelosi knows this. So do all the other Dems.
But, it helps advance the narrative they want out there that the record prices are due to "price gouging" when they have absolutely ZERO evidence that this is the case. They have to shift the blame.
We do have evidence that Biden took a plethora of actions days into his presidency that sent the message to oil and gas companies that he was essentially declaring war on them. Why would they produce more and invest more when they know they will only be penalized for doing so?
Biden WANTS higher gas prices. He believes it will help speed up the new green deal. As we have seen in the past year and a half, Biden's decisions and instincts have been all wrong.

The issue as I see it is that the transition from fossils to green will be slow and take decades. Fossil industry will have a difficult time justifying 20-30 year investments when they know more and more will be invested in green tech and EVs. What we have is a market failure that will require the federal government to step-in and coordinate sufficient supply and investment for national security reasons.
