DC needs to drop afternoon nap next week. He normally naps 1-1.5 hr at daycare, and 0-2 hr on weekend. Current bedtime is 9pm, and he wakes up between 7:30-8:15am. I drop him off at daycare by 9am.
What time should I do early bedtime to drop the nap? |
| Between 7 - 7:30 |
| Age? |
3.5 year old |
| His bedtime is really late for his age. My five yo is in bed by 8 |
because he naps! Good grief. OP I would aim for a 7pm bedtime ( lights out) to start then gradually push it back. If he needs to get up early for daycare though you’ll probably need to keep it at that time. Don’t plan on car rides after around 3 pm for a while….. |
It doesn't matter! 9pm is way too late for a 3 year old. Do you have kids PP? Good grief. |
Why does it have to happen next week? What is happening? |
Op here. Because he is moving to new classroom next week that has no afternoon nap anymore. |
yes and when my 3yo was made to nap at daycare she was falling asleep at 9/930. It’s the reason we pulled out of daycare. |
Are you not in the DC area? Daycare regulations around here require "quiet time"/naps until age 5. |
This. But start on a day with no nap. And keep the same schedule on weekends. |
Naps are entirely appropriate at that age, and important for brain development. Good for your former daycare. |

I had (still have) a sleeper. He slept 12 hours a night and napped up until the day he started Kindergarten. But wouldn't it be great if there were daycare options for non-nappers?

This will fix itself.
Send him next week, and move his bedtime to 7ish. |
