Solo plane travel with two small kids

Anonymous
I am trying to figure out if I can manage a flight with a two and four year old, without my husband. I’m not worried about the flight itself, it’s not long and we can manage with snacks, small toys, and screens. But I’m worried about the logistics of carrying all of the stuff. I would drive to the airport and then I think about how I would get through the airport with both kids, luggage, car seat and booster seat, and I’m stumped. We would be renting a car at our destination. Any tips for how to make this work?

I flew many times to Europe with my 2 kids, but at 2 and 4 I was not alone. I did it with DD3 and DD1. I wore my 1 year old, the 3 year old walked and I pushed a cart with all our luggage.
I am not sure what I would do with a 2 year old. Probably I would still try to wear her with one of those backpacks for older kids? Not sure, but you can’t be pushing a stroller…

You don’t make it through the airport with all of the stuff. Check it all.

Could someone at least drive you to the airport?

I’ve done this several times. It is doable as long as neither child is a darter and both will reasonably follows directions. If one is feral- I wouldn’t do it.

Take a full size stroller, hopefully you have one that can easily be pushed, maneuvered, folded, with one hand like a BOB or city mini. 2 yr old goes in there and pile your personal items underneath. Carry a backpack for your carryon. 4 yr old takes backpack too with their stuff. Take one suitcase on wheels and check it. Check stroller at gate

Check both the car seats. Take a stroller that you can check at the gate.

I like this!

Curbside check in, NO carry-on bag. I travel with 3 kids alone, frequently. Haven't had any issues, but other than a diaper bag, and checking the compact stroller at the gate, I refuse to bring a carry-on luggage. Everything is checked.

Optimally send the luggage ahead by UPS or FedEx. They even ship suitcases.

If you have a double stroller around you can use one of the seats to transport the car seat or booster while the baby sits in the other seat.

Single mom, and this is what I preferred to do.

For those recommending curbside check in, are you getting dropped off in this scenario? If you drive and park at the airport, how do you get everything to the curbside check in?

Curious to know how much does this cost.
Can you give a ballpark idea?
