| In highschool do students have to use the MCPS Chromebook or can they bring their own personal laptop and use it in class? Thanks! |
| Most schools don't allow it. They can do everything from a personal one though. |
| Ours doesn’t allow it. |
| A work around is to buy the same model Chromebook. No one can tell the difference. |
The schools have software to see the websites the student has open on each MCPS chrome book. The teacher will know immediately upon opening the program that his school chrome book is off line. |
Not necessarily, we use our own computer and never have taken an MCPS computer but we are still virtual. Its never been an issue. If they are logged in, its fine. |
Not everyone uses GoGuardian. Even if they do, the program is so glitchy that I’ve seen students in front of me working on the classroom cart Chromebooks, but GoGuardian said they were offline. It’s only an issue for standardized testing. |
We use our personal computer for the MAP testing. |
| In MS (8th grade), not HS, DS has used personal Chromebook since 6th grade. He does have to use MCPS issue Chromebook (loaner) for testing. |
|
Meant to say that we are in MS. My brain is on weekend already
|
| We have been able to use personal chrome books but not other computers. |
Our children's schools have allowed it, and some math and computer classwork didn't work well on a Chromebook. |

My teen uses her own computer and says the mcps chrome books are trash. She’s taking AP Java and there is t even a way to do that programming on the chrome book. I think there were also issues with other classes she took.
She only needs the mcps chrome book for certain tests. |
Check your school. More schools are trying to get a better grip on technology use now and some are not allowing personal devices at all for classroom use. At RM, some kids carry both- chromebook for classroom use, personal device (often a tablet) for before & after school and during lunch. |
| Unfortunately in middle school, our children cannot bring their laptops to MCPS schools... I was wondering about Highschool though. |
