Why can't DCPS share school start times?

Anonymous
Email from school today:
During the Town Hall meeting Tuesday, August 23rd, administration will share school start time

We have to coordinate different school drop-offs / work schedules. Is this some secret that they can't tell families? Do teachers know what time to report?

Different schools have different start times for various reasons. Your school will tell you when they can.

What school?

NP and I think I received the same email. I thought it was strange to not just put the time in the email because it’s not a secret. It starts at 9 am (this particular school, I don’t know all of DCPS)

NP. Your reply makes no sense. Schools are not still deciding when the day starts and ends. There is no reason to hold it as a closely held secret. Parents need to be able to plan. Sometimes in life things have no viable defense. This is one of them.

Do start times change from year to year? It didn't even occur to me to check yikes

Maybe you should all exercise school choice and go to charters if you don’t like it.

Schools changed 2 years ago due to COVID when everyone start online at the same time.
Last year DCPS made a central office decision on start and end times (In a brilliant move they did not think to communicate with Metro so that bus schedules could be adjusted)

I assumed (?) they would move back to pre-COVID start times this year.

Elementary DCPS teacher here.

In 21-22 SY At my school teachers frequently had school wide meetings (administrator decision) and trainings from 8:10-8:40 every week (2-3x a week), so students weren’t allowed in the building until 8:45 because there wouldn’t be enough adults to monitor students in the cafeteria.

19-20 SY doors opened at 8:15 students went to breakfast in the cafeteria and teachers without home rooms (inclusion/resource & special subjects) had breakfast & hallway duty. Once again was also an admin decision me and the rest of my fellow teachers had no control over it.

Lol no. It’s just that every time there’s a charter thread people need to come in and say “you could always go to DCPS.” I’m just being an a$$ in that vein.

Shows how much they care about the families they serve.

Hardy’s website shows different times in different places. I guess we’ll know the answer by the second day.
