Ikea crib as first crib?

Anonymous
Hi all -- anyone have an ikea crib and mattress and love it? I'm looking for a crib to move my 4 month old to (he's in a travel bassinet at the moment). I'm not sure how comfy their mattresses are for babies

I’d be curious too. Op I’m thinking of getting the ikea crib too, but I’d skip the mattress.

I used it for my babies from birth and it was fine - you need a hard surface so baby doesn’t suffocate. So the mattress can’t be spongy like an adult’s.

It's fine. It's a crib.

A crib is a crib is a crib. It's basically a cage. I wouldn't get an Ikea mattress though, it's something you want to last and also to be quality.

Just because it's not fancy doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. And crib mattress aren't mean to be comfy. They're meant to be safe.

I've had multiple Ikea cribs, and they were all just as nice as the expensive one I received for my first child. I never had an Ikea mattress though, so can't comment on that.

It's just a mattress. For a small, not heavy person. I'm sure it can hold up as long as a kid is the right size for it.

We used an Ikea crib and a hand-me-down mattress. It was fine. I'm not sure what you mean by "first crib," though. Are you planning to use one crib in place of a bassinet and graduate to another one, then to a bed?

We used an IKEA crib and mattress for my twins for years. No complaints. Would do it again any day. And honestly they are so economical I think people feel like there is something wrong with them…. But there isn’t. They work great and were in great shape when we finished.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

The ones with moving parts seem to always get recalled. We just got the fixed one. We got one of those ecomattresses separately

I don't think it's legal to make cribs with moving parts, and hasn't been for many years.

We got the IKEA Gulliver crib and used it till it was time to move to a bed. No complaints.

Cribs are highly regulated so I think it’s the perfect thing to get at IKEA. We have a Gulliver I think and it’s been great. No problems. I think the mattress is from Amazon though but I’m sure IKEA’s are fine. The mattress isn’t that important when you weight 30 lbs.
