APS Taylor Elem - 3 Kindergartens this year

Anonymous
We got our kids teacher assignment, so looked them up and it lists only 3 kindergarten classes this year?

Is that right, are there only about 66 kids (22/class) in Taylor Kindergarten this year? Is that normal? It seems really small... is it because a lot more families in 22207 are going private?

Or have they just not listed the rest of the teachers this year?

I don't know about Taylor but APS raised class sizes for a couple of years in a row during the pandemic. So my guess is that kindergarten classes may have 25 or 26 students now.

Wow, so a very top heavy school? I assume this is a pandemic effect?

Still 78 students is quite small for a grade. Kind of nice after hearing about all the overcrowding. Maybe they will get rid of the trailer!

Probably more because of rezoning. Some kids were moved from Taylor to ASFS in the last round.

The grades are pretty uneven at Taylor. Rising 2nd grade is by far the biggest with 5 classes, I think.

They lowered class sizes just this past spring, FYI.

They haven't updated the website. This is still from last year.

Those webpages for each grade are from last school year 2021-2022. They haven't been updated yet for this upcoming school year.

There were three K classes last year. So those classes are now rising 1st graders and this year they got enough new 1st grade enrollments to create a fourth class and hire a fourth first grade teacher. So this year there will be 4 1st grade classes.

Wait, is the teacher assignment out?

It looks like Cardinal is down to just 3. It wasn't long ago that McK had 6!

For this upcoming year, as of today, Taylor will have 3 kindergarten classes and 4 classes in 1-5. It is the new normal since the rezoning. They are not taking away the trailers. Everything is subject to change due to late enrollments.

1st grade had 5 classes last year, and you're saying they are shrinking back to 4?
