I see some negative comments on Air Portugal in this forum from 2021 and earlier. Anyone flown them recently and have any thoughts? We are going to southern France (not Portugal) and the TAP flight is a good one stop option. We would be changing planes in Lisbon - how is that these days?

My family went for spring break. In retrospect, I would've paid twice as much not to fly TAP. One of our flights was hours late, and you had to wait in a fenced in area with far too few seats. We sat on the filthy floor. But that's nothing compared to the horror of trying to change our flights when one of my party had a positive covid test the night before we were scheduled to depart. I literally spent 11-12 hours on the phone. Waiting on hold, getting transferred to the wrong person, getting hung up on. We drove to the Lisbon airport only to learn that it'd be 2-3 hours to speak with someone in person there. Definitely the worst customer service I've ever experienced and it ruined a few of our days. I learned that they fired a ton of staff at the beginning of the pandemic and never staffed back up. And there was a charge (I think around 100 EU) to check a carseat. I instead opted to carry it on, only to be told well after takeoff that I couldn't have it in the middle of the middle row due to safety reasons. I was told they'd have to take it from me for landing, but then they never did. I've never before encountered a charge to check a carseat. |

We are flying them in March on their non stop. It was $300rt.
We had a like trip planned for spring 2020, and unlike other stories I've read, they gave me my refund the fastest out of other airlines. I did this via the phone and did not wait long. I don't have kids, and my husband and I take our laptops everywhere. If I didn't have this flexibility, I would only stick with legacy carriers. |
| Avoid at all costs. Customer service is abysmal, food and service are worse than Spirit or Frontier. Just a total debacle all around |
Do you really need good food to go on a plane flight? |
Did you even read the entire post or did you just zero in on one word? |
I read it. Customer service, food and service are bad. I don't fly much but I would imagine getting from Point A to Point B would be higher on my list than food. Or at least ON the list. |
You don’t fly much, but you think that any airplane that doesn’t crash merits a glowing review? OP asked for experiences. I had a bad experience, post police. Simmer down. |
| Flew them in spring for 1st time and no issues. |
| Thanks all, sounds like we better take BA or Air France. Was hoping to avoid changing planes at Heathrow or CDG, even though we aren't planning to check baggage. |
Honestly it may be worth flying tap just to avoid heath row! |
| Really, really bad customer service. We lost a full day of our trip due to cancellation and had to fight it out to get a new flight. It was a scene. |
| Didn't fly TAP but the Lisbon airport is dreadful. |

Lisbon airport is over capacity. Long lines. Also the section for flights to the US (after passport control) has no amenities ijncluding no lounge.
I thought the food was great, but I was flying in business class. |
| If in doubt, check TAP's Trip Advisor page and Twitter posts tagging them. |
