Would this annoy you?

Our neighbors have contractors working in their yard - not sure what they’re doing but it’s been a couple days so far. They are out of town and left their water off (by accident, I imagine) so the contractor asked to use our water yesterday and today. I said yes and they grabbed some buckets of water and also hooked up their hose, which they’ve been running periodically. My DH said not to answer the door tomorrow, but I feel bad because the neighbors aren’t there and the house on the other side of them is vacant at the moment (just moved out) so we are the only option.

Just wondering what others would do.

Two days is plenty. But I'm guessing if you don't answer the door tomorrow the contractors will figure it's okay since it was okay for the two days prior. Can you reach out to the neighbors and say "Hey I think your contractors are having trouble because it seems your water is shut off - you may want to touch base with them."

YTA. Contact the neighbors if you want but should have said no first day if you didn’t want them using it.

Weird. By now they’ve had time to contact the owners and resolve the situation. Can you see how long this project is supposed to last? It’s not reasonable to expect you to supply water for days on end.

Contact your neighbors and explain the situation. Your water bill will be high this cycle.

OP. I don’t have the neighbor’s contact info; they seem like very nice people but keep to themselves. I just noticed this morning that the contractor’s truck is in their driveway and their hose is still hooked up to my house so they will be there again today using our water - day 3. How might this impact our bill? I can’t really tell what they’re doing - something in the driveway. If it won’t significantly impact our bill I don’t mind but I don’t like that there is no end in sight. I’ll talk to the contractors today and ask them to please notify our neighbors.

Why haven’t you removed the contractors hose?

Because I gave them permission to use our water. I didn’t realize they’d be there yet again today, though.

So then why are you complaining? If you didn’t think they would be here again today, you should’ve unhooked it and if you don’t want them using it, another reason to unhook it.

You essentially left it hooked because you thought they weren’t going to use it again. That makes no sense.

I didn’t leave it hooked. I had no idea they left the hose attached until I left the house early this morning for a doctor’s appt. Sorry you’re having a crappy morning.

I was just told the neighbors are returning this afternoon so it’s no longer an issue.

You could have also unattached the hose to water your yard or something.

Well you didn’t unhook it so you knew it probably was still hooked. You’re the one with the crappy morning and getting kissy with people for calling out your stupidity.

OP this is good Karma.you did a nice thing that was neighborly snd helped out the contractors. Hopefully the neighbors will come and thank you but if not know that you are a good person and leave it at that.

It won't matter on the bill unless they are digging a swimming pool. Tell the neighbor when they get back, maybe they will throw you some bucks for the inconvenience.
