Is one lunch time unreasonable?

Anonymous
I WFH and do IF, so I eat lunch pretty early - 11:30 or so. DC's (8 and 7) usually aren't ready by then, and it's getting pretty annoying to have to make my lunch, then drop what I'm doing to make theirs 20 minutes later. Am I asking too much for them to just be ready when I am?

I would just make theirs at the same time and leave it sitting on the counter for them when they're ready.

Yes because who wants to eat when they aren't hungry! It is not reasonable to expect someone to eat when their body is telling them they don't need to.

But just make their lunch at the same time as yours and put the plates in the fridge -- when they are hungry, they can pull them out.

Better yet, teach your kids to make a sandwich and grab some fruit from the fridge on their own.

Yes you’re being unreasonable. I IF as well and don’t expect others to follow the same eating window as I do. Especially kids. Make their lunch while you prepare yours and set it aside for them.

Ok, then how do I explain to my manager why I'm not at my computer?

I think it’s unreasonable to force kids to eat when they aren’t hungry just because that’s your own preference. Why can’t you wait longer to eat? Because you prefer to eat when you’re hungry? Goes both ways.

Or they are 7 and 8 and it's summertime, so they are capable of making their own lunch?

Because I'm starving and can't snack like they all morning.

They won't. I've tried just not making lunch for them to see if they'd give up and find something on their own, and DH thinks that's lazy.

What do you mean? How much time does it take to make their lunch?

You need a nanny to teach your children basic life skills.

Make them something they can eat when they are hungry.

OP, I mean this gently: if IF is making you this unreasonable and rigid, maybe stop doing IF.

Seriously, people have given you several good options and all you do is complain. I think you are hungry and it's making you a b****. Eat something, please.

The issue is that we eat leftovers, so once I heat stuff up, I can't leave it sitting out.

Your kids are 7 and 8 and can’t make their own lunches? Exactly what have you been doing?
