PG county and Charles County roadside election signs

Too many of them...and too many with pointless headshots

IMHO they are not effective, don't even know who is running for what and even what day the election is on; just s bunch of glamour shots along 210 and 301

The head shots are so the Black candidates can let the Black folk know who they are.

I noticed this Driving through MD recently. Very tacky. And why does there have to be 25 signs all bunched together? Almost as bad as billboards. Almost.

I don't think this is reason because the far far majority if not all of the candidates are black. I think there is just a lack of understanding of communication science: just throwing up a sign isn't a strategy

No white candidates do this, so I think it was a innovation by one Black candidate at some point a few years ago that most Black candidates copy now. I am not sure it’s as much communication science as knowing how to campaign and build support. Dropping signs everywhere is a lot easier than canvassing.

I think signs are really important. I never watch real TV, and only signs and earned media reached me this cycle. Signs are a show of support.

I don’t think the headshots are a race thing. This is PG county, most of the candidates are Black. And there are headshots from white and Hispanic candidates too. I think some of them just think it makes the signs connect better.

You’re wrong. I just saw a white headshot sign last night. I think I was in DC. And in PG Rocio Tremino-Lopez had her face on her signs and she has a clearly Hispanic name.
