Too hot to exercise outside

Anonymous
Anyone else suffering through this heat? I was up at 615 today and it was already so hot, even though it was completely overcast. My run was miserable. How do you survive? Any tips? I'm going back out tomorrow morning since Wednesday will be super hot.

Mornings are actually rougher for me personally, because that's when it's the most humid. I prefer mid-day somewhere shady.

Getting it done early is the only way, OP, if need to workout outdoors. I was a runner for years and loathed summer for this very reason, and I know this week is forecast to be brutal. I'd sometimes workout inside or swim laps or something, but I know those aren't options for everyone. Definitely bring plenty of water and make sure you're well-hydrated otherwise.

So, you have my empathy, if nothing else!

OP, I feel your pain. I hate exercising indoors, but I finally broke down some years ago and got an elliptical for the basement, so I can get some exercise on days I can't face the muggy DC mornings. I still try to get up early to run before it gets hot, but I've basically written off this entire week. Apparently the "low" on Thursday will be 78 degrees.

It's miserable. I try to run at 6am, but it's suffocating. I run less or intervals.

I wish there were more public water fountains. I'm not a germphobe so I'd drink from them, but also to splash my head and face.

+1

$70 for a 12-punch pass to the MoCo pools. It’s worth it.

Ugh, why would anyone risk heatstroke in this weather? My husband is out in the heat, working on his vegetable plot. He's crazy!

It usually feels many degrees cooler if you can go into Rock Creek Park!

Go as early as possible, and then I go for a long walk in the evening just before dusk.

I go in the evening after work so I can sleep in a little in the morning and then take a shower right after the run.

I go early and do HIIT runs so I have a short, impactful workout. Hopefully it’ll make me fast by fall!

I’ve switched to doing cardio with online instructors.

The humidity is awful. Go earlier.
