Seeking Advice. Multiple Miscarriages

Anonymous
Started trying to conceive our third child a year ago. Previously had two healthy pregnancies and deliveries with zero complications. One at 29 and the other at 34
Then this round, I start when I am 37.
October 2021 Chemical Pregnancy
January 2022 11 Week MMC - necropsy did not find any genetic issues
April 2022 Chemical Pregnancy
and today no heartbeat. the free cell dna test was Negative a week ago as was the NT scan.
I was taking baby aspirin this time. I was on metformin for PCOS which I stopped at 12 weeks per doctors' guidance. And according to the baby's growth it died 2 days after I stopped taking the metformin.
Is there any point in keeping on? I feel like I'm now 38.5 and my body has proven that for whatever unknown reason it can't carry a baby anymore.
I feel like these aren't genetic losses, otherwise the necropsy and other tests would show something?

I feel so stupid for even embarking on this journey. If I could have just been happy with what I had and left well enough alone, all this pain would have been saved.

I'm sorry OP and have a very similar miscarriage history as you. Started trying a year ago at 36.

I just met with a friend that went through 3 years of infertility. When they did IVF 9 of the 11 embryos had genetic defects. All different defects too. None of their genetic tests ever came back positive for anything.

So the question is, are you up for IVF?

Yes. We had considered doing IVF and then got pregnant with this pregnancy naturally. I guess I figured these weren't genetic losses because the tests found nothing - but it sounds like genetic testing on the IVF side is more comprehensive then it is on the cell free dna & necropsy side?

I am so sorry for your struggles and losses. I would stop and focus on the two children you have.

Depends on what you mean by necropsy? Did they do something like the natura Anora test? That is pretty comprehensive but can still miss some things (note genetic testing for IVF would not help either with things the Anora misses unless you have a balanced translocation and are doing PGT-M, not standard PGT-A). I assume you have had karyotyping and other recurrent loss testing done? If not I’d do that. Cell free dna tests only tests for a select few genetic issues, so that being clear doesn’t mean it’s not a genetic issue. Most likely you are dealing with chromosomal issues. IVF with PGT-a would probably help you avoid some future losses, but you can still miscarry a PGT-A cleared embryo ( I did twice, my doctor said it was still probably a chromosomal issue because my recurrent loss testing was clear any PGT doesn’t test for everything and it’s not perfect. It was described to me as making sure there are the right number of pages in the book, but not checking that the right info is on each page). I’m sorry for your losses and good luck!

Don’t you have two children?

Good Lord! You have 2 children and 3 recent miscarriages. Stop already. Jeez!

Ignore the trolls. You're allowed to try to have as many children as you want.

It could be bad luck crossed by age but it is time to get worked up. I would suggest finding the clinic where you would do IVF and start there.

Could be autoimmune

You should absolutely meet with a fertility specialist. But it’s also important to realize what an undertaking IVF is, especially with two children at home.

A friend of mine needed injections of hCG.

I have to agree.

Have you had genetic testing done? After several m/c and a couple of live births I found out I have a balanced cell translocation. It’s actually quite common.

My OB also put me on progesterone supplements as a matter of course when I did get successfully pregnant.

Wishing you the best.

So we did a full fertility work up after the 11 week mc. Genetic testing and the works with a fertility clinic. They found nothing except maybe Pcos for which the metformin was rx. I did progesterone supplements from ovulation to 8 weeks. Betas were monitored until they got over some threshold. Honestly it was like the last mc where everything was fine until it wasn’t.

Thanks for the thoughts and advice, I appreciate the information and support (including the support to quit too).

Sounds like egg problems. Besides the most recent, they’ve all been first trimester and research overwhelmingly shows genetic issues as the likelihood of first trimester losses.

So very sorry that you are experiencing all of this. What works for some in this situation are Lovenox injections during the entire pregnancy. This is in addition to progesterone supplements and baby aspirin. Also keep an eye on your thyroid. Good luck with it all. It’s a lot.
