feeling hungry ... 6 weeks into starting weight training

Anonymous
i'm 40, 5'3 went from size 4 to 6 during the pandemic... i started a weight training routine 6 weeks ago and really liking it, feel more toned already. i'm doing 4-5 days a week.
just one issue, also feeling more hungry. should i eat more to build muscles or eat the same to drop weight? confused.
my goal is to be less flabby especially around the middle and in the arms, and overall feel stronger.
before weights i was a regular yogi but just wanted to try something new.

Eat the same amount but have more of that be protein. That will help with hunger and with muscle growth.

Hard boiled eggs and plain yogurt.

do you want to lose weight?

To physically build muscle you need to eat in calorie surplus. Like gaining fat you can't gain muscle without excess calories. Note, gaining muscle is to the same as getting physically stronger.

You can do this in a few ways. You can do what some call a clean bulk where you eat more on the days you lift and less on the other days. This approach takes longer to gain muscle and overall your weight should stay the same.

or you can do a regular bulk where you eat slightly more aiming to gain 1-2 lbs/month. Some will be fat but some will be muscle if you are lifting heavy enough. After a few months in the bulk you reduce calories (small deficit so as not to lose muscle too) to lose the fat and keep the muscle.
