Bowl(s) of apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dish soap.

I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of fruit flies and nothing worked. Nothing. Someone on here posted last summer that there is some type of gnat around the DMV area that comes out in warm weather and doesn't have the same lures as a fruit fly. I looked closely and this is definitely what I had. They recommended this thing above and it did help a lot.

+2 I had the same problem last summer. The pests weren't fruit flies. I think that they were fungus gnats? Anyway, I used a combination of stuff you pour down the drain, sticky traps and paper, and the Katchy to get rid of them.

Bumping this thread because We got overrun with fruit flies in the past week. The Internet said to take a jar with a metal lid, punch holes in the lid and fill the jar with a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. Worked like a charm and this morning I see no live fruit flies. They are all drowned in the vinegar.
