American Legion Bridge expansion is a mistake

Instead why not build a bridge up north by White's Ferry? Why are we adding more cars to the road, have you not heard of induced demand?

I'll give you my take. I'd like to see a series of small bridges. White's Ferry area being one of them. Maybe they can expand Points of Rock.
The truth is they really should seriously consider expanding the Purple Line West from Bethesda to Vienna.
Expanding highway lanes is doomed to failure. It NEVER worked in Los Angeles. Billions wasted and the automobile traffic is still there.

LOL. Do you people just have a random collection of buzzwords in your head that you spit out? “Induced Demand”, such as it is a thing, is not relevant for HOT Lanes.

There will be no change to bridge congestion for ordinary traffic. However, for those willing to pay the variable priced toll, you will be able to pass through relatively easily and thus increasing overall capacity.

This is not exclude the fact that another crossing is necessary. If they extend 370 it’s easy to see how it could cross a bit north of Bretton Woods and connect with 28 and provide a direct shot to Dulles.

And that’s why it won’t happen any time soon. Maryland owns all of the river and would need to pay for bridge that would potential undermine BWI.

So a massive infrastructure project for Lexus lanes so that you don't have to sit in traffic with poor people?

New bridge and bridge expansion. If I were a dictator this would happen. But I’m not so it won’t. Regarding BWI, it is a LCC airport. It has basically no international. It doesn’t compete much with Dulles.

You all are funny. People in MoCo are ALREADY driving over 495 to take Dulles. A bridge or series of bridges does not change that.

Also this...the two are not competing for the same passengers. BWI is a Southwest Focus City with cheaper flights to domestic airports, Dulles is a United Hub that focuses on long haul domestic, and international flights. If anything, BWI's closest competitor is Washington National

Please somebody make a bridge at 28 to Maryland. Maryland would fight this tooth and nail. I think Virginia even offered to pay

HOT lanes are a mistake. Expanding the bridge is a mistake. They both add to the traffic problems rather than solving them.

The problem is no one is proposing a viable alternative and meanwhile traffic gets worse and worse. MD can't even get the purple line completed, what's the chance that could get expanded to Vienna sometime in the next 20 years? I am not a fan of the HOT lane concept but when no one is willing to pay more in taxes this is what you get.

As a matter of state policy, it’s hard to see why tax payers in Baltimore County or PG County and their representatives in the Assembly would want limited state transportation resources going to increasing MoCo’s economic linkages with Virginia, that will benefit both, instead of promoting and supporting investments wholly within Maryland. Keeping in mind that Maryland must pay substantially all of the cost.

“Traffic problems” as defined as what? HOT lanes will add throughout without increasing or decreasing congestion. It will also provide an opportunity to allow for a dedicated transit lane in the bridge which would give people the opportunity to not drive to their job in Fairfax, which is also good. The bus terminal at Montgomery Mall has huge potential as a park and ride for transit to Tysons.

Please cite one example where lane expansion "solved" a traffic congestion problem.

Hint, you can't because it has never happened.

Well in that case lets just revert to 2-lane roads everywhere and use that reclaimed land for more park space and bike lanes.

Another option is to have more jobs in Montgomery County so fewer people have to cross the river to work. If we don’t reverse course on job growth in Montgomery County, we won’t be able to build a bridge that’s big enough.
