Hogan orders suspension of “good and substantial reason” for gun permits

Why is he doing this? We are complying with the constitution? I thought SCOTUS wanted states to decide these issues. How can Hogan do this unilaterally? I am already so scared about gun violence in this area.

Why would you be concerned about CCPs? There is no correlation between CCP access and violent crime rates.

A state can have rules regarding the process for obtaining a permit, but no one should be required to show "good and substantial reason" to exercise a right. It's a pointless requirement that serves no purpose.

So much for his moderate image (which I never understood anyway).

What a sad day.

If he has presidential aspirations, he’ll have to move to the right.

+1.

I feel sorry for the deluded, naive people who do not understand what it means when a politician chooses to be a Republican.

Did you read your own link? No SCOTUS did not invite states to decide this issue.

Can I see a list of CCP requirements in MD?

He just invited the super majority Dems in the MD legislature to create all sorts of new requirements for the CCP license, like mental health screenings.

So the state can spend a much of money losing before SCOTUS and creating even worse precedent for gun restriction laws? Great plan. With liberals like you, who needs conservatives

Let’s be fair, understanding SCOTUS is confusing. States can’t restrict gun laws, but they can restrict health care for women.

Oh, a mental health screening is a bridge-too-far for someone to carry a firearm in public?

Sorry, but the vast majority of Americans disagree with you.

I saw what was written. Better to keep the guns off the street then let people start carrying willy-nilly around MD. It takes a loooooooooong time for this stuff to get to the SC.

This has nothing to do with my opinion about what gun restrictions should exist and everything to do with the fact this SCOTUS is going to create precedent that undermines gun regulation. You don’t ask a SCOTUS you know disagrees with you to keep talking.
