Do you tip for to go orders?

Anonymous
Tried a new restaurant this time for a to go pickup and at checkout they suggested a 15%, 20% tip. This seemed strange to me since they are just filling my order. I've never encountered this for pickup before at other places. Do you tip if they suggest it? I didn't and now am wondering if they spat in the food.

Tipping is standard for take out/to go orders. I worked as a hostess in college at a few different places and would get tips this way - it was rare to get an order than didn’t include a tip but it happens. I can’t remember the average percent but I think around 10% is fine. I will usually tip 10% or $5 for an order of around $40.
