Ugh, i’m 54, finally have an empty nest, and although I’m not fat, I feel very out of shape. I walk a bit, mostly just walking the dog, but that’s about it. I really want to get serious about becoming more fit, Now that I finally have much more control over my time. I don’t have a particular amount of weight I would like to lose, although I wouldn’t be sad if I lost a few pounds, but I would like to feel more energetic, feel stronger, and look better. Does anyone have suggestions for where to start? I hate group classes, and I am not terribly coordinated, so I’m looking for suggestions that seem doable for a beginner. Thank you! |
You could find a walking group and/or a hiking group and start there. You also need to clean up your eating. Eating more quality food and no or very little junk, plus staying hydrated, makes a huge difference to your energy levels. |
Peloton app and hard core on the floor calendar. |
I think walking more is always the best place to start. It's also worthwhile to try a bunch of things to see what you click with. Start with small goals (like maybe 3 15-minute youtube videos a week) and then work your way up. It might be worth seeking out fitness classes geared toward beginners and those over 40 (like gentle yoga), but it's ok if that doesn't work for you.
On youtube, I like Jessica Smith https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLe5P3ayTEj7bU0ljnuSbKkKqaAlPlrLIY. Lots of variety (maybe too much) and very beginner friendly. Good luck! |
