Which school should we look at with this LSAT score

Anonymous
My kid just got her LSAT score 172. She is a rising senior, a math and philosophy double major at a DCUM no name school with a 3.8 GPA. She works about 20 hours a week and tutors math on the side. Which schools should she shoot for? Keeping in mind we cannot afford to pay and she doesn’t have a lot saved from her part time job.

Is she planning to take loans and commit to working in big law until she repays her loans or does she want to get aid or go to a lower cost school?

Why is this a “we” situation?

With a 172 and top marks in undergrad, regardless of school, she’s in a great spot to get substantial merit aid from the middle to bottom half of the T-14. She should think about the geographic market she wants and what her goals are after graduating, then apply accordingly. Congrats to her!

Agree. Unless you are also planning to go back to law school, there is no “we” in any of this process. Land. The. Helicopter.

Also agree. If she is old enough and mature enough for law school she is old enough and mature enough for figuring out which ones to apply to. She can look this up very easily.

For god’s sake. I understand this is completely her choice. She just got the results and we’ve been discussing affordability of various school options.

Yes, look at merit aid. I'm currently just counting down the days until my ten years are up for PSLF.

I can’t even imagine my mother trying to come up with law schools I should apply to back when I was your daughter’s age. I handled all of that myself including loans and financial matters. It’s sad that you think you should be involved in researching this.

You’re completely missing our point. Of course it’s her “choice “ where to go. We are all saying she should figure out what her options are on her own.

Did you not read the part about her working while carrying a full loadx2. So yes, she manages on her own just fine. We are having a lot of discussions because it’s a huge financial decision.

If it were my kid, I would suggest applying broadly to the back half of the T14 (i.e., nearly all of them), hoping for merit. Plus a few schools that are just beyond (e.g., gtown, ucla, sorry I haven't looked at the rankings lately). And some in the front half of the T14 as well, even if they tend to offer less merit. Then see how the acceptances and prices shake out, and decide on a path, such as whether she's willing to borrow and then work in BigLaw.

Don’t let these posters get to you, OP. Most people understand what you meant and this forum is filled with young, arrogant dude bros who never miss an opportunity to show their $ss.

Your daughter has lots of great options. Happy for her!

I am so sick and tired of these "absolutely useless" same old comments. Either you bring some new materials for insults or STFU.
