| Like with ending slavery? Or women's right to vote? With a nation-wide standard like 12 or 15 weeks with exceptions after. Can someone explain this to me? |
| Yes it can totally happen but you need a hell of a lot more Democrats in office. |
Ratification by 3/4 of states seems unlikely. But perhaps get it on the books and let states ratify over time? |
| Yes - let’s ban it altogether. |
|
Will never happen
Passing a law in Congress is “easier”.. but there is that pesky filibuster. And then of course the crazy party can overturn it when they gain control because Americans are dumb |
| Considering they could not pass the Equal Rights Amendment, do you honestly think we will get a constitutional amendment for abortion? |
| I would suggest that you start by googling “how to amend the constitution” to see just how difficult that is. If we cannot pass a national law protecting abortion access, there is no way we can amend the constitution to do so. |
That will go as well as prohibition did |
|
With the current democratic leadership I think a total ban on abortion is more likely vs rolling anything back. Who do you think is more likely to deliver for their constituents republicans or democrats?
Remember Democrats voters only count for a 1/3 vs republicans. What’s the point of even trying? We have no voice or representation. |
It’s been tried. It’s called the ERA. A not insignificant number of people in this country do not believe women are equal citizens. Scalia was one of them. |
|
Down the road with enough time, this will probably play out like prohibition.
Plus if liberal folks are more likely to support abortion, become more limited in ability to get an abortion leading to more children born to liberal parents, eventually the republicans will be outnumbered in a substantial way enough to create a constitutional amendment. Republicans are celebrating, but down the road, this will lead to more and more Democrats dominating the population. |
This is the most bizarre “logic” I think I’ve ever seen. WTF? |
Bizarre, yet also possibly.... true? |
No, the desire for abortions is a drop in the bucket compared to a desire for alcohol. |
Nah, it only takes a few GOP dudes who knocked up a woman and then realized the repercussions for their political career.... for it to come back to haunt them. |
