Where to find weighted GPA?

Anonymous
My DS just finished ninth grade. He had one B each semester in an IB course and an A in everything else including some IB classes and an AP class. The final report card shows a GPA of 3.86. Is that GPA weighted or unweighted? If unweighted, where do I find the weighted score?

My teen and I are both super confused by this too. We can't find it anywhere, and I know it used to be easy to find. The report card has "grading period averages" but not the cumulative GPA, weighted and unweighted. There also used to be a place where it showed final grades for each HS level class through the student's history (basically the transcript) but I can't find that anywhere anymore.

The report card GPAs are unweighted and are not cumulative. The cumulative, weighted GPA is included in the Student Grade and Graduation Credit Report, which is like a running transcript which is generated twice a year, and is supposed to be shared or sent home by the counselors. The weighted GPA may also be in Naviance.

I see that the Student Grade Report that does have the weighted grade and everything broken down, was last distributed in November (for my DD) through Synergy. She just finished 10th grade. I am not sure if/when another one will be created as it might just be once annually.

Do you have a Naviance account? Are you at RM? If so, I remember last year when my DD was a freshman, I created a Naviance parent account for her.

Log into Naviance
Go to About Me in the upper right hand corner
Choose your kid's account
The weighted and unweighted GPAs will be in the Academic block

Or you can work it out on a calculator

A grades in AP and Honors = 5
A grades in regular classes = 4

and so on

Does anyone know when the GPAs in Naviance are updated (relative to when report cards issue)?

I think it varies from school to school.

I thought IB coursework didn’t start until 11th? Are these pre-IB classes?

5.0 Weighted for my son in a magnet program. Yes gloating because it was so hard.

I started to do it and gave up because I couldn’t figure out which courses were weighted plus the MS courses, etc., over multiple years. Too complicated.

Honestly, this is what I don't understand. DS is in the IB magnet. One of the courses is listed as "IB X" and the others are listed as "RMS X". I have not clue whether that means they are "Honors" or regular...

Congrats! It is an accomplishment for sure.

But I guess I don't understand the calculation. Presumably your son took a phys ed or elective, so how does that calculate to a 5.0?

No PE as a freshman. Elective was an AP and language was Level 4. My kid will be taking a non- honors art class next year (Chorus) so his weighed GPA will go down.

Calling BS. There's no honors phys ed.
