| It sounds like people were eating undercooked lentils? |
People, at least some of the ones who got sick, specifically said they cooked them as directed. They thing they might have been contaminated. There's a whole reddit thread on it. |
| It’s really really bad. Put me in the hospital for 3 days last week and I’ve never been sicker. Almost had my gallbladder removed but improved enough that I didn’t need to. It was a total mystery until Daily Harvest sent out the email a few days ago and I put two and two together. Still not fully recovered with extremely elevated liver enzymes and worried about permanent damage. |
Sure sounds like the company is blaming it on undercooking. |
| What are crumbles? It’s really hard to undercook lentils, so I’m trying to understand what’s happening here. |
Like fake meat basically. They’re not undercooked, the consumer is not cooking them from scratch, just heating them up. One serving of undercooked lentils doesn’t cause severe liver damage. There’s some kind of contamination or toxin. |
|
This is a huge deal. Hundreds of people have been hospitalized, some even had their gallbladders taken out because of this. What a mess.
|
| Their email to all daily harvest subscribers downplays this so much…and only offers a $10 credit… |
|
My bet probably a toxin, like aflatoxin, from fungus at the primary source I.e. the farm where whatever’s in the crumbles are grown. There’s a lot of ingredients in it besides lentils. They don’t typically test for it and there’s no way to kill it.
The way the media is downplaying it as “gastrointestinal distress” is disturbing. People are getting organs removed FFS. |
Yes, this is a class action situation. RIP daily harvest. |
That makes sense but wouldn’t this affect more than just the daily harvest lentils? I’m surprised daily harvest wouldn’t just name the farm and say they’re investigating with the farm for all potentially impacted foods. |
| I read through the Reddit post and there are literally hundreds of people talking about their hospitalization. This must have affected a ton of people but I am not hearing about it anywhere. |
| I had no idea about this. I guess DH must have sent the email to only those people who ordered the lentils because I definitely didn’t get it - I just double checked. (I tend to stick with the smoothies). Is it affecting bowls with lentils too or just the crumbles? |
For now, just crumbles, but some on reddit claim other items made them sick before. |
