How far do you travel to practice?

I’m in for a long commute this fall as my son made a high level team that is over an hour away. What’s the longest you would commute? Am I crazy?

I think it would depend how often and how long the practices are scheduled. Swimming at a high level is a 6 day a week commitment, sometimes with multiple practices per day for older age groups. There is no way I would be up for a one hour commute. That being said I hardly think you are the only parent with that kind of a drive. Is carpooling an option?

Ours is 30min each way 3x weekly. No one to carpool with but so far it is doable.

An hour each way? How many times a week? This would never work with my family. How would your kid get homework done? Sleep?

Our farthest is a ski team. Practices weekends and it’s 1.5 hours a way. Tend to stay overnight.

Regular practices for other kids - 35 minutes max.

^ January and February only, of course.

There was a dad in our fencing club who commuted over an hour a day for his two sons. They did homework in the car and it seemed to work for them. High level fencers plus highly regarded instruction he just couldn’t get in his hometown.

I might consider 30 minutes if we had a carpool arrangement. No way I would do a 2 hour round trip on a regular basis.

Never in a million years UNLESS my kid was so good and so committed that this would help with D1 achievement.

If it was to just continue playing, continue to improve, never.

20 monitors to arrive at 5pm. I would not do an hour if I had other kids at home.

20-25 minutes. No carpool, unfortunately. I would not do an hour.

33 minutes door to rink to play on a AA hockey team for 10 yo. Old "A" team as only 15 minutes. Not sure the extra "A" is worth the drive, but DH assures me it matters.

You are crazy. We do 20-30min. 3x per week and it is a lot.

My son wanted to move to another team but it's 45min. drive. NOPE!

How old is he? is he serious about the sport?

Why tryout for a team so far away? Nothing local?

Wow, my limit is 10 minutes. If it's not happening in Vienna, our family won't be a part of it.
