Recent Feedback on World Bank Daycare

Does anyone have any recent experience or feedback on the World Bank daycare center? How are the facilities/teachers/communication? Do they send picture updates throughout the day?

My feedback is a little dated (we left in 2019) but since no one else responded I’ll bite. We found it amazing. Communication was great, we received daily pictures and lots of updates. The facility at International Square is beautiful. My children are now in school with other kids who went there (most of whom stayed later) and we all talk about how great it was.

Hi OP! Were you able to get in quickly? No waitlist? I heard they are doing full time and part time now, is this the case? Thanks

The World Bank Children's Center (WBCC) is a top center for early education, far exceeding DC standards. Daughter has been there full time since she was 8 months old (now 4.5 y.o.), except for the time it was closed during the pandemic.

Excellent teachers and care, with a low teacher-student ratio (2:8, 2:10, 2:16, depending on the kid's age). Pictures sent daily, good communication with the parents from the teachers and administration, great and safe facilities (we are in the C building) and a balanced menu (including vegetarian options).

Follows the Reggio Emilia method, centered in the child, creativity, morning circle, singing, arts, etc...

Very international obviously, which is a great strength.

Well respected across schools in the region. Other parents that left before (due to age of kid or the pandemic) were told their children stood out in the play sessions/parents interviews when applying to elementary schools.

Highly recommend it if you are a WBG staff.

When we applied there was a lottery and were lucky to get in, given how much demand there was. Now the application system is a bit different and there are more spaces available, so defitinetly consider it and apply. It's the best investment in the early stages of your child - besides family, pediatric visits, and nature

Hasn't it been closed for a while - when did it open back up? Also how much does it cost? We made too much for the subsidy, but not enough for it not to be wildly expensive compared to other options. Only good thing is you have a valid excuse to leave the office because daycare is closing.

It reopenned a while back. WB staff can see the rates are on the internal site.

For those of you who used it, was the relatively late start of 8:30 AM a hassle? I know many staff work on regions where calls start early in the morning. Was the WBCC amenable to early morning care?

Hours usually 7:45 AM to 6:15 PM.

Doesn’t it go back to the old schedule with the move to Tier 0?

It costs $2100 full time. Does anyone know how the subsidy works? Is it available for staff only or ETCs STCs as well?

The cost depends on the class/age.

My son goes there currently and I love it. They post pictures and videos on the app. There used to be gym (Powertots), music class and art class before COVID but not right now.

Regarding early hours, were saying that currently its difficult to offer services from
7:30 if they are to keep the same structure/costs. Before COVID, two classes would be combined from
7:30 to 9:00 so that the same teachers look after the few children who were here at that time. With COVID, if they were to offer before care, they’d need to hire more people given the 8-hour work hours of the teachers (can’t remember the exact hours but something of that sort). This might change in the new year, but that’s what the director said a few months ago.
