Are we going to have field trips ever again?

My kid's elementary still hasn't gone on a single field trip since Covid. I know they are "allowed" now so clearly they have made the decision as a school not to.

If your elementary school has also had no fields trips have they given any indication about next year?

Unfortunately, it all depends on the individual principals. We didn’t either. They brought farm animals to the school playground and that was our “field trip.” I kid you not, they call it that and we paid for it and signed a permission slip so that my kid can to the school playground to pet some animals. I know of someone who attends Whetstone ES and their kids have real field trips. I don’t know why it varies so much from school to school.

One DC had a separate local experience (like the animals) brought to the school. My other DC had "virtual field trips" where they watched documentaries on their Chromebooks. I think I am not going to sign a permission slip for any more "virtual field trips"!

I hope they will bring back some more regular ones next year. Our school had a couple, but just not my DC's grade levels.

We had a virtual field trip to an aquarium. My kindergartner quipped that National Geographic on Disney plus was much better.

Kids get more group field trips homeschooling. Parents plan about 1 each month, most kids attend. I can’t imagine not having any all year. Very sad.

My MCPS 5th grader had one field trip this year to Mount Vernon.

I am disappointed that my kid has literally never been on a single field trip due to covid but I am also a teacher and I'm a fully aware of the teachers are really burned out from this year. I encourage everyone to advocate for next year versus complaining about this year

I am a sad parent of a Kindergartener who got no field trips, class parties or school functions this year. The school was locked down like Fort Know. I never even got to go in the office or to her classroom. That principal is leaving this year and I pray the next one allows the kids to have fun. Meanwhile, at my school, 2nd grade and up went on field trips and we had 3 class parties. All of our school functions continued as normal. Very unfair.

Very irrelevant to the MCPS forum.

Our school has gone on field trips. One of my children went on an all day field trip that left before school started and ended after school hours.
