Dickinson- full pay

Anonymous
Does anyone pay the full cost to attend Dickinson or is it a case of marking up the cost to mark it down with merit aid? We won’t qualify for financial aid but $78k/yr is a lot!

81% receive institutional grants or scholarships

On their common data set, it looked like 81 freshmen receive non-need (merit) aid, with an average award of over $20,000 per year. For all undergrads, 276 students receive an average of over $15,000 per year. So either they've just started being more generous, or they are most generous with freshmen.

The cost is marked up sky high

Dickinson is a decent school but it’s not worth nearly 80k a year

OP here- thanks for the responses! We are early in this process and trying to make sense of the enormous variations in tuition amounts from school to school!

That seems like a huge red flag

It’s not necessarily a big or significant discrepancy. 65 v 81? They can’t control how many kids offered big merit awards will accept. Maybe more accepted that year. But it might be worth asking around.

My DD liked Dickinson a lot, but even $20k off that tuition leaves a mighty big bill. She ended up declining and chose another school that appealed more, and gave heftier merit.

We were full pay at Dickinson. Didn't fill out a FAFSA or apply for any aid anywhere. DC was offered some merit aid at a couple of schools anyway but not at Dickinson.

DC really liked Dickinson. Had to break it to DC that we'd have to cross off the list.
Even if DC got the biggest scholarship they have- it's still too hefty.
Plus, they require students to live on campus all 4 years so housing costs will not go down.

What a bizarre school to go to for full pay.

Oh, congrats! Do you mind mentioning which school or any others that your family considered? We're trying to put together a college list for our twins who like LACs in PA and the Midwest. Thanks!
