Why do daily room inspections happen at some boarding schools?

I'm just curious. Is fire safety the main reason?

And for reasons to do with health, good habits, and responsibility, I assume?

My son has inspection- I don’t know the exact reason I’ve always assumed it’s about teaching them basic responsibility. He has to make his bed and empty his trash can each morning. It’s a very lenient idea of “clean” but I do notice that when he’s home, he’s more responsible about hanging up his clothes and putting dirty laundry in the hamper vs on the floor.

Responsibility, security, and safety. You've never once heard of a mass shooting a private and/or boarding school have you? They would have found the weapons before anything happened and expelled the truants students before then.

Going out in a limb, I bet you have no data to support your claim.

Going out on a limb, there has never been a mass shooting at a private or boarding school. They get rid of the degenerates before there's a problem. Sorry that's facts.

Room inspections at boarding schools probabl date back to the 1800s, long before drugs were a thing. It was done to maintain order in dorms--lots of tight spaces, and to instill responsibility for making your bed and emptying out the trash as a daily morning habit (like the army).

At my girls boarding ages ago, you got demerits for not cleaning out you hairbrush daily. A friend once got a demerit for an asymmetrical bedspread.

My friend survived the shootings at Simon's Rock in the 1990. The father of one of those killed became a noted gun reform advocate: https://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/14/opinion/why-we-let-the-school-shootings-continue.html

Do you even read what you cite? You state never occurred at a private school. While what you post notes 6% occurred at private schools. And the PP stated that dorm inspections find weapons before an incident. Waiting for data on that statement.
