Jazz up my oatmeal!

Anonymous
I liked the recent thread on yogurt and what people put in it and have gone back to eating it for lunch, which has helped my diet.

**So, help me out with oatmeal! How do I make plain oatmeal more interesting, especially without much (if any) sugar??**

Right now I'm eating it with frozen cherries, almond extract, and cinnamon. It's not bad, as far as oatmeal goes. But I need to branch out if I'm going to to try to work this into rotation.

Savory oatmeal. I like poached eggs with fresh herbs

About half way when it is done, I'll add strawberries and blueberries. They will get soft as you cook, releasing flavor. Add cut up banana, a light drizzle of honey and some pecans. Some sprinkle of cinnamon of you wish.

I do walnuts, craisins, and cinnamon.

Cinammon and some applies slices.

I love oatmeal! Mixing in a scoop of protein powder gives it a really unique texture that I love (I use Ump brand mostly cookies and cream, but any brand could work). Apple sauce and cinnamon tastes like apple cobbler. Shredded carrot, nut slivers, and a sweetener tastes like carrot cake. Brown sugar is amazing. I really like sweet oatmeal as you can see by my suggestions.

Other mix-ins could be flax seed, raisins, raisins, any berries, almond butter, pb powder for a different consistency, bananas, walnuts, maple syrup, agave, greek yogurt, jam, date syrup, Chia seeds, any fruit butter, shredded coconut, caramel chips, chocolate chips, pumpkin puree, and pie filling.

peanut butter, blueberries and coconut

fried egg, kimchi, and bacon

Any of your yogurt toppings would also probably be good on oatmeal.

I like thin sliced green apple, cinnamon, walnuts, and brown sugar

Love adding a scoop of unsweetened peanut butter.

I also love making overnight oats - soak oats in unsweetened vanilla almond milk overnight. I add berries, cinnamon and coconut flakes.

Blueberries and peaches with flaxseed, unsweetened coconut, and a splash of milk.

I also make a baked peanut butter banana oatmeal that my family loves. You can easily make it without baking it. Scoop of unsweetened PB (or another nut butter), sliced banana, flax seeds, cinnamon, vanilla, walnuts.

In the fall I add pumpkin puree, walnuts/pecans, and pumpkin pie spice.

Frozen mixed berries and cinnamon. A splash of vanilla or almond extract.

Any fruit. My favorite are berries. Walnuts or pumpkinseeds. Always cinnamon and ginger powder. And sometimes OMG chaga mushroom powder or OMG Immunity organic superfood blend.
