Help - what to serve TODAY for 2pm “reception” after confirmation?

Anonymous
I’m in desperate need of ideas for what to serve at around 2pm today following my son’s confirmation at 1:00. So far all I have planned is an ice cream cake from son’s favorite local shop. Yes, this is last minute, but I’ve been otherwise occupied with parent in hospice/death/funeral planning (parent died a week ago). We will have a total of 13-14 people so not a lot. 2pm is just a strange time to feed people and I’m at a loss on ideas. Obviously I’d need something that can be prepared pretty quickly. Thanks in advance.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Sandwich tray, veggie tray, large salad - all from the deli section of whatever grocery store is closest to you. Make it easy.

Where do you live?

I would go to Wegman's or Costco and get any prepared platters that look good.

Agree, just get trays or if you have people who can help, you can make hot appetizers in the oven. Put someone in charge of the timer and the hot pads and dishes to put them out.

Veggie tray, fruit tray, those rolled sandwiches, cookie tray. Doesn't have to be a lot. Small paper plates, forks, napkins. Buy those Izze cans and water bottles.

Chicken filet platters or

Pasta salad and fruit

Or

Sandwich platter from Panera

Get a sandwich platter from Subway or just go to Wegmans and throw a bunch of cheese, crackers, and a fruit and veggie tray in your cart.

Or heck, order pizza and some of the sides from the pizza place, like chicken wings and breadsticks. Qdoba takeout family style is also good.

You don’t have to be hostess with the mostess, this is just one meal, one gathering. I’m very sorry for your loss. Totally give yourself a break. Just provide some type of food and you’ll be fine.

People will have already eaten lunch. The cake and beverages are fine.

I would not get a platter of any kind. This isn’t a meal. People who are suggesting platters are overdoing it.

These are all very helpful, thank you.

To the PP who said I don’t have to be the hostess with the mostess, thank you, I needed that, and somehow that line made me laugh AND recognize yeah…that’s true, and that’s just fine today. ❤️

I’m sorry for your loss. I would get a sandwich platter from somewhere, I think it’s still within the realm of lunchtime and would rather err on the side of too much to not enough. Pizza isn’t a bad idea either. But definitely more substantial than just a dessert.

Is this Catholic confirmation so people wouldn’t have eaten before the (noon?) mass?

I do think lunch things make sense. Maybe “nice” pizza, salad, and a cake? Someone close enough to your family make the top 13 list is going to either be close enough to understand, or be a teen friend of your DC and not mind a bit!

Is there anyone attending that could go out and grab something for you? If I was attending I would be so happy to do that for you.

Aww, I’m that PP and I wish I could give you a hug. Whatever you do will be totally fine, even if it’s sending another guest who is close to you and knows what you’ve been through to grab a few buckets of chicken and some sides from KFC.

Agree, just do whatever is easy. As long as the people who show up hungry have something to eat it will be fine! Lots of drinks since it will be hot. Ice cream cake is a great idea.
