Recommend your family sized tent

We're getting ready to go on our first family camping trip and the little 3 person tent from our pre-kid camping days isn't going to cut it. Looking for something that will comfortably fit our family of four and maybe sometimes the dog. Decent quality but not super high end/expensive, we don't expect camp all that often or in any extreme conditions. Bonus points if it's available from Costco or Amazon. Anyone love their tent and have a recommendation?

We love this one:

It’s inexpensive for its size yet surprisingly sturdy with foolproof assembly.

We are a family of three + dog and use the Coleman Evanston 8 person and love it. We had the 6 person version but it felt tight so we upgraded to the 8, and we could fit another kid easily in the larger one. This is the link on the Coleman site, I would bet you could find it cheaper somewhere else if you shop around:

REI Kingdom!!

Though they rebranded it - https://www.rei.com/product/202982/rei-co-op-wonderland-6-tent. Great tent. We camp a lot through some serious stuff - doesn't leak, plenty of room, doesn't blow over in prairie windstorm that destroyed our other tent. Oh - and lots of room and pockets.

How many people total? We use the Coleman Sundome 6 person for our family of 3 and it works great. For two kids, I'd probably go bigger.

Would it live through beach camping at Assateague?

We have the REI 6 man base camp. It’s lasted several years, lots of beach camping, rainy weather etc. OP you could probably get a great deal on a gently used tent.

Wow that’s awesome. We have a smaller version of an Ozark Trail tent. No complaints at all and we’ve had it for more than a decade.

This tent is amazing. My friend had it when we went camping. She got to the campsite five minutes before I did and had it set up by the time I got there- it was unreal. It slept her and her two kids plus me and my two kids easily with a screen divider. Highly recommend- replaced our Coleman one with it mostly based on how easy it was to set up and break down!!

GET AN EASY UP TENT!!! Coleman makes one too and it’s on Amazon.

I recommend getting a tent from Dicks Sporting Goods. They are not too expensive and the quality is decent. Get a 6 person tent for a family of 4 and a dog

Where do you use such a large tent? How many people do you camp with? I've been on many campsites smaller than that footprint!

We bought a 4 bedroom tent at Costco that lasted a long time. We called it 3 bedrooms and a porch! Kid 1 + friend on one side, kid 2 + friend on the other, spouse and I in the middle. Shoes stayed on the porch, which kept all the rooms so much cleaner. Super easy to put together (I did it a few times on my own when me and the kids would leave Friday morning and my husband would join us after work). The kids are in college now and we haven't used it for several years, but it is still in good shape

Dogs and tents don't really go together as their nails can puncture the flooring.
