What is middle aged to you?

Saw that the golden girls tv show cast were of middle aged women but people say middle age is 35 and up with ageists on here saying 40s is old and one must look old in their 40s?

Roughly 40 to the point at which someone would be considered elderly. That varies person to person.

Middle aged is the middle of one’s life. If the average life span in 80 then middle age would be between 35 and 45 and spanning 20 years.

You’d have to live to be 90 for 45 to be middle aged. Plus middle aged is a span of time so if 45 is the middle the span would encompass ten years before 45 and ten years after.

I think if it as a life stage between childbearing and being elderly. The actual ages vary, but maybe 45-70?

You sound crazy. The other people knew what I meant. Is your critique reserved to make you feel superior? How do you address those whose English is not their first language or who have a handicap that may not fit your anal retentiveness of perfect grammar in a text?

I think it could be subjective but assuming that people are living longer and could live up to to their 90's I'd say the average middle age today could be 45.

I think it is a bit specific to individual people, but the period between having little kids and retiring is a good proxy.

My sister and I are two years apart in age. But, she had her last kid at 29 and I had my last kid at 43. She is now an empty nester and I have a 3 year old. We are both middle aged, but our middle age looks very different. She spent a few hours babysitting for me a couple of months ago and she needed a nap afterwards. She is probably in better shape than me because she has more time to work out, but mentally she is no longer able to tolerate the tedium of little kids that I deal with every day. In that sense, I am not yet middle aged because I can’t move on to that mental stage yet while my sister can embrace it.
