| Or some other type of democracy? |
| Overwhelmingly representative with some direct elements at the state and local level. |
| It’s a plutocratic oligarchy. |
| Neither. |
| A failed state because of the republicans? |
|
At a federal level, the US is a democracy in the form of a republic. We elected representatives to make policy on behalf of constituents.
At the state level, it’s a mix. For example, California - like Switzerland - allows citizens to directly vote on policy matters in addition to electing representatives and an executive (Governor). Other states are purely representative democracy and do not allow any local initiative voting. |

The founding fathers didn’t believe in direct democracy.
They think that could turn into tyranny of the majority. I will say we are a constitutional federal republic with representative democracy. |
| A representative democracy, as most people in second grade and higher know. |
As you can tell, it's news to many people. |
| It’s a flawed democracy. Google it. |
| What does the label matter? Look around to see what decisions are being made, by whom, and on whose behalf. That will tell you how we’re actually governed. If you’re asking how we ought to be governed, the answer is that opinions vary. |
All democracies are flawed. There is no perfect government except in the minds of tyrants. |
What would a direct democracy of a country this size even look like? |
LOL. Keep deluding yourself. There are 25 countries less flawed than ours. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_Index And if you disagree with this metric please post another. |
| It’s a banana republic. |
