In summary- there’s a whole community of women devoted to finding the best fake “replica” bags and other accessories. Many of them are women who could afford the real thing, but think it is a waste of money to spend so much.
https://www.thecut.com/2022/04/repladies-fake-luxury-bags.html My take - it is definitely a waste of money to spend 150k on a bag. However it is just as dumb to want to look like someone who would spend that much. |
| Sometimes it's about quality. A lot of these factories take on a 3rd shift and make fake bags after they shut down real production |
| I agree with OP. I only made it through half of the article- it’s just another sign that we are in “let them eat cake” territory as a society. |
| It's a purse. If you like the design of a Burkin but have half a brain, you buy a fake one. |
Exactly! Why spend when you don’t have to. |
| Ugh nothing worse than a fake bag! No design is so good that it worth looking like you can't afford the real thing. |
Same with the cheap versions of bags from the outlet store. "I love MK so much I'm willing to carry around this cheap bag just because it has the MK label?" No thanks! |

https://www.reddit.com/r/RepLadies/ I’m surprised that it’s mostly women sharing the actual contact details of the people they bought the fakes from. |
| I LOVE designer bags and I also love really high end replicas. I often wonder about some of the things you see on Ebay instead. Sometimes when you buy the 500 coach bag for 200 dollars you are getting a high end fake from China and I got one and it's delightful. But I wonder if some of these people aren't just working at an outlet mall in the US and stealing things. |
Because fakes are IP theft. |
| They can be good investments if you don't actually use it. https://www.shiftlondon.org/features/are-birkins-the-ultimate-financial-investments/ |
And? What isn’t theft nowadays everything is a copy of something else. |
|
The things people invest in. I don't like the Birkin shape at all, but people have invested in worse things!

You don't get it. You CANNOT get one, even though you can afford one. That's how Hermes keeps up demand and that's how they keep appreciating like crazy. These ladies you mention would love to get a new one from an Hermes store, but they're not allowed to, so they rationalize by whatever means the fact that they could not get one unless they paid half a million for a pre-owned at auction. |
| The wealthiest people I know (in the billionaire family category) carry no name purses. |
