DD (2 yrs) wears a 6.5 W/XW in Stride Rite shoes but I'd really like to get her a pair of Keens. The 6.5 Stride Rite are a little bit big, but the 6 are too small. The Keens dont come in half sizes. I am ordering them online. What size should I buy? Will the Keens fit her even with wide feet?
I think you should go up a size. My 2 kids who have wide foot have needed a size up. They do not run big.
Agree to go up a size, particularly with wide feet.
I found Keen to run big. I'd get a 6 and a 7 -- free shipping from Zappos and then mail back what doesn't fit. The Keen shoes are great, really well made.
Go to REI, Keen sizes are funny, but the shoe staff there know how to fit them.
I just bought DD Keens in a 7 from shoebuy.com (cheapest price I could find and free shipping on returns). She is currently measuring a 6.5 M/W. They seemed to fit her fine in the width and ok at the toe--not sure they will make her a full summer season. But an 8 for her would be too big. She did not like the feel of the shoe at the top of the foot--where the velcro meets and had me take them off. I will try them again tonight and if she's not happy, return them. They are the Keen Newport H2 which seem to be different than the ones I got for my son...
i just bought my 2.75 y.o. DS a pair of keens from zappos. he's a size 6.5 stride rite, so we went with the 7s and they fit just great. however, my DS is fussy about shoes and has yet to really wear them for more than 30 minutes at a time. he likes his nike sneakers better, but i'm HOPING he'll see fit to wear these adorable keens. they get such solid reviews!!
My 4 yr old son, who has some mild balance problems, lives in his Keen sandals...they are absolutely fabulous and I've recommended them to anyone who will listen. Imagine my suprise when my super sturdy, very sporty 2 year old girl could not walk in her new Keens...turns out she has a very high instep, and they just won't fit her...I need to get them 2 sizes up to accomodate her in-step and then she's swimming in them. Just a heads up.....
We found that Keen sandals were too narrow for DS's wide/x-wide feet, even if we went up a size.
Keen sandals do seem more narrow than their sneakers, which are quite wide and roomy.
Agree on this.

Keens are not good for kids with W/XW feet. If you go up a couple of sizes, the shoe is too long. DS had problems with the area around the arch being too snug--we couldn't velcro the shoe closed.
My DD wears a Wide or xw in SR and basically in all shoes. She cannot fit her foot into a keen. They run narrow.
My DS wears size 6.5M in Stride Rite, but when we went to fit him in his keens, he fit fine in size 6. If you plan to buy online, perhaps you can size him at a local store before purchasing.. or as a PP suggested, if they offer free return, buy both size and return the one that doesn't fit.

My 2 year old DD did great in Keens despite having XW feet. I think she went up just one size. The velcro is adjustable so you don't have to strap them super tight.
Warning, they do start to smell when worn with bare feet but I just threw them in the washing machine and they always came out beautifully. I couldn't believe my young daugther was generating such stink! |
