"Controlling for sex, age, breed, and other potential confounders, we found that dogs fed once daily rather than more frequently had lower mean scores on a cognitive dysfunction scale, and lower odds of having gastrointestinal, dental, orthopedic, kidney/urinary, and liver/pancreas disorders," the research team, led by first author and canine health researcher Emily Bray from the University of Arizona, explains in the new paper.

Oh boy. My dog would be extremely unhappy if we started feeding him just once a day. No matter how recently he’s been fed, he eats as though he hasn’t had food for days.

Same! He would be so sad. He definitely knows when it’s meal time, he starts looking at me with hopeful eyes.

Our dog starts barking at us to feed her approximately two hours before each feed. No way we could go to once a day.

Both of my dogs have lived to 16 being fed twice a day so while I appreciate the research will probably continue the twice-a-day schedule if we get another dog.

I can set my watch by my dog’s internal food clock.

Breakfast, dinner and I give her bites of my people food all day long.

My puppy is "supposed to" eat 3 times a day but he won't, only twice (usually noon and 6pm, sometimes 9am and 6pm). This stresses me a little because of all the advice, but maybe he's onto something haha.

We have two big dogs who now eat one and a half times a day. They were both skinny when we got them, so they had breakfast, 4:00 tea, and dinner at 9.

They started not wanting breakfast, so now they just have tea and dinner.

And now I don't feel so bad!

My dog likes to tell me that since one human year equals seven dog years, his eating twice a day is the equivalent of my eating twice a week. At least I’m pretty sure that’s what he’s telling me when he’s mad that I don’t share my food with him.

+1. Mine gets breakfast and won't touch it til dinner. We've tried so many foods, topper, fresh cooked meals, etc. but it's all the same. Wants to eat once a day at night. He does get treats throughout the day leading up to that.

I feed my dog twice a day, but she usually only eats once a day, in the evening. I feel bad not feeding her earlier, and if she has nothing in her stomach, she will throw up bile. So, I give her a milk bone in the am.
