Why is nobody pushing to keep the advanced child tax credit program?

Anonymous
It was widely touted to have cut childhood poverty, increased access to food and safe child care, etc.

For my own middle-class family, it provided some major breathing room--essentially covering (most of) the cost of after-care.

Why is nobody pushing to keep this program in perpetuity?

Because it only positively affects the cash flow of 30% of the country. Not a winning strategy there.

Oh, and it rose inflation by 3% when the total inflation for the year was only 6.25%!

Free money always provides breathing room, for a while.

Why don't people just keep all free money programs?

It's not free money. It's an adjustment to the taxes *I already overpay and loan to the government interest-free.*

Because we aren’t interested in living breathing children.
We just care about fetuses.
Once squirted out, you’re on your own.

Maybe for you. The Squad insisted on making the extended CTC available to all households - regardless of if the families were employed or not. Including illegal immigrants.

The reasons stated above. Plus those of us who got our taxes done on time realized that free CTC money isn't free.

I HATE having to pay in April.

Agree with the above. Men in power care only about fetuses and inflation. GOP Family values = F**k your family. But hey, at least your kids won’t get CRT in school and will have their textbooks vetted to it conforms with someone’s belief in the magical sky friend.

Who knew that the GOP had the house, senate, and presidency. Must have happened while I was asleep.

Joe Manchin, along with all the GOP Senators, decided they didn’t want for you to have it. They were concerned that if you had “breathing room”, you wouldn’t be willing to work any crap job for slave wages just to not see your kids starve. That hurts the bottom line, and we can’t have that. Pro life indeed.

Next question?

Let's be clear about Manchin's position.
He did not want it because it did not include a work requirement AND he wanted a cap on income.

Senator Joe Manchin, D-W.V., said Tuesday that he will not support an extension of the enhanced child tax credit (CTC), a key component of the bill, without the addition of a work requirement for parents.

Manchin told Business Insider that his position on the requirement has not changed for some time. Democrats need all 50 senators on board to pass their legislation via the reconciliation process, and the West Virginia senator has been a holdout in getting the social spending bill to Biden’s desk.

In addition to a “firm work requirement,” Manchin has also called for a household income cap of around $60,000 to receive the credit. Specifics on what exactly the work requirement would entail haven’t been made public.

If you refuse to take care of your own family, why blame it on other people. Be thankful we are paying for benefits you enjoy. Before lecturing others on CRT, take care of your own stuff first.

Yes. Was something I said incorrect? He wanted you to take any crap job for slave wages. If you wanted to hold out for something with a better schedule or a living wage, you can pound sand.
