I just don’t think ecnl is making a big announcement this week like some think. US soccer will reveal that 8/1 or 9/1 cutoff date for sure and whatever “support materials” to aid in the transition. The question is will GA and ECNL and MLSN reveal their intentions?

Everyone has to turn in their plan to US Soccer for approval. So we should know everyone’s plans in the next week or two.

I was hoping to see some plans and decisions after the us soccer meeting.

8/1 traps zero kids

Make it make sense.

Not true. There will always be trapped players because parents can always hold their kid back.

You're also assuming that avoiding the trapped player situation is why the change is being made. Also not true.

The change is being made to generally promote participation in the sport. Nationwide, a 9/1 cutoff groups school grade kids together the best. Translation: this is really about money for the sport through greater participation. It's not about a perfect solution.

Trapped by choice is very different than trapped with no choice 🙄 But you may be right about it being about money and not kids. But kids can ALWAYS play up. It is not exclusionary, at all, by having it 8/1.

Why you want to force the kids who go to school on time to play up, so your holdback kid can be the oldest?

Based you logic, then why July kids have to be the youngest, then June, then May. Three words for you: Suck it up.

With a 9/1 cutoff date, August birthday kids who are young for their grade will still be the very youngest cohort in the 12-month span. If they go with 8/1 instead, those same kids either play up with their grade (with a kid potentially 13 months older rather than 12 months older), or can opt to play with the grade below and be the very oldest cohort. Doesn’t sound like a bad option set for those kids!

My point is that the young August kids are not in a worse position with an 8/1 cutoff date. They can be the very youngest just like they would be forced to be with a 9/1 cutoff OR be the very oldest playing with the grade below.

Compare that with older August kids who have to play with the wrong grade with a 9/1 cutoff (and be very youngest too).

8/1 maximizes the number of kids who can play with their actual grade and gives the young August kids optionality.

Yeah this sounds right, it is a US Soccer meeting so they will set the general plan. After that US Club and leagues to follow with their plans.

I'll answer this by haiku:

business decision
not universal fairness
time to move along

The best answer I have seen here!!
They are not eliminating trap just greatly reducing it.

All this arguing is so pointless since it won't happen for another year. GY is only way to go to avoid trapped players everywhere.

Yes, I hope ECNL can release the plan soon so we can move on.

I’m like has no one from US Club Soccer seen this forum yet and realized they need to say something soon

We know for sure that the BY mandate will not change until 26/27. But anyone who thinks absolutely nothing will change and we'll all spend 18 months waiting for the SY to kick in will probably end up being wrong.

I am OK with either absolutely no change for 25/26 or a transition plan. ECNL should release its plan soon so everyone is on the same page. There will be ECNL ID session or tryout soon, so both the clubs and parents can plan.

it's always good to plan ahead. you'll have plenty of time I'm sure.

Some people could make different choices for 25/26, depending on the plans for 26/27, like switching clubs or leagues.

And then you get much larger age differences … great (and a problem)
