VA Dems oust Filler-Corn

VA Dems remove speaker - https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/04/27/virginia-democrats-house-speaker-ousted/

Any idea the motive behind this? I haven't follow the VA house that much since the election.

Dems really seem to be doing their best to blow all the gains made in VA in the last decade. (I say this as a frustrated VA Dem)

People are being pretty tight lipped about it, but it sounds like VA Dems are blaming Filler-Corn (and the caucus chair, Charniele Herring, although she wasn’t removed) for losing the House of Delegates in the 2021 election because the party was still sitting on $1 million at the end of the year that could have been put into close races the Dems ended up losing.

The Post had a good write-up yesterday regarding her leadership failure to financially support her fellow Dems.

Meh... I live in her district. I hate to see someone like her so bad at her job be removed from it. Hopefully they replace her with someone worse.

It’s easy to make Filler-Corn the scapegoat, especially if she didn’t pour all the money available to her into tight races across the Commonwealth. However, I don’t think she’s the principal reason for why Democrats lost the House of Delegates. Biden and McAuliffe are more to blame.

Maybe they want to put a progressive in charge so they can lose more in the midterms?

I prefer to blame lazy ass Dems who stayed home. There is no such thing as an honorable Republican any more. People knew what this man was about and what he stood for and stayed home anyway.

Women have FINALLY reached true equality in Virginia politics.

When they can be fired for outright incompetence and ineptitude, just like a man would be.

This is a good thing. We should all applaud the Dem caucus.

The ouster was led by Del. Don L. Scott Jr. (Portsmouth) who is a former naval officer from Houston with an agriculture degree from Texas A&M. If he’s a progressive I will eat my hat.

Such a narrow minded stereotype. No wonder the Dems are going to lose big in the mid-terms.

This whole affair has misogyny written all over it.

The Democrats are almost as nutty as the Republicans. It’s crazy that they’ve put Louise Lucas on a pedestal - she’s a foul-mouthed, race-baiting, old biddy with ties to the cannibis industry. How they think this enhances their stature in Virginia escapes me. It’s just one self-inflicted wound after another.

Oh come on. It's not exactly far-fetched to think that a Democrat from Portsmouth is less likely to be a progressive. He probably wouldn't have been elected there if he were.

From what I heard about this on the radio it does sound like Democrats from outside of northern VA may be wanting less progressivism and for moderates to have more of a voice. They know progressivism doesn't play too well outside of NoVA and maybe certain parts of Richmond and VA Beach/Hampton roads. Virginia is a sea of red outside of the cities and Blacksburg/Charlottesville.

I hope you are hungry. Del Scott has also done time in prison on drug charges. He is a tremendous proponent of criminal justice reform, legalization of cannabis, etc.
