Poaching chicken question

Can I poach thighs the same way I poach breasts? I can't imagine why it wouldn't work, but I am not good at cooking so just wanted to check. Thanks!

Yep! And if you have an Instant Pot, go that way. Comes out perfectly every time with zero effort.

I don't have one of those. I'll just be using a regular pot on the stove, but glad I can do the same way.

Yes, but they take longer to cook

Update: I poached the chicken thighs. They taste a little less flavorful than when I poached chicken breasts, and have more fat which I dislike. I will not buy chicken thighs again.

I can’t imagine chicken thighs would be good poached. Too flabby. They are excellent roasted or grilled allowing the fat to render

Welp, lesson learned. I thought I'd heard thighs were more flavorful. But it tastes okay enough that I'll add it to chinese food. Back to the chicken breasts in the future.

Yes, I poach in bone broth or chicken stock, shred and add to all kinds of other food.

Thighs are more flavorful. You just cooked them wrong. I roast mine for at least 45 minutes. I put butter on the skin and smoked paprika. Honestly, poaching is one of the worst ways to cook chicken full stop.

Poached chicken breast should be fed to animals. I do have a good recipe for chicken thighs (Rick Bayless) that calls for poaching them first, but I still prefer them cooked other ways.

Poaching cooks chicken evenly. Baking or sautéing it can make it overcooked and tough on the outside, undercooked on the inside.

- We are talking about poaching dark meat- which is a huge mistake
- Any cooking method can overcook boneless skinless chicken breasts especially and make them stringy and gross.
- Instant Pot is the best for tender meat to shred

Poaching works with breasts, which don’t have a lot of fat to add flavour or moisture

Thighs have both those things, so all you’ve done is waterlog them and lash out their natural flavour and fat

Use a dry heat when preparing thighs and you will find them very flavourful.
