How did the 8th graders do? Did 6th graders also apply out for 7th?

Seems like 8th did well from what I've heard. Won't usually find out about 6th graders until the end of the school year. These families/kids keep this information to themselves longer.

One of the strongest 8th grade classes in recent memory from an outplacement perspective.

Agreed. The class really spread out in terms of high school placement, and as far as I know the admissions were strong across the top private high schools in the area. It is a great class of kids.

As someone with a kid starting at Norwood for K in the fall, this is terrific to hear!

Which schools are considered as strong private high schools?

Sidwell, Holton, Maret, Potomac, Landon, St. Alban's, NCS, Bullis, St. Andrew's, etc. Some boarding school. The important point is that the kids got into the schools that fit their interests and academic needs. Not every kid is right for "big 3," and Norwood advises families well about best-fit high schools. I don't know of any 8th grade parent who is unhappy with his/her kid's choices.

How many were siblings or legacies though?

I can’t think of any legacies who are attending the HS where their sibling attends. Several are not attending the same schools.

+1
Almost all of the kids I have heard about had choices and are happy with their decision

Don't know the whole class well, but do know there are some legacies...and can confirm others going to different school than their sibling.

Current 8th grade parent.
Outplacement is fantastic. Very happy.
5 sidwell
2 St. Albans
2 potomac
1 NCS
2 maret
4 Holton
1 GDS
Just to name a few off the top of my head…. And this is the kids that are going to those schools, not acceptances. For example, more were accepted at GDS but 1 is going….. keep in mind some kids want public or a school located further out of the city… or want boarding. Not every kid wants “top three.”

Love that norwood sends kids to variety of schools that are a great fit for THAT kid!

The STA kids are NCS siblings which give a leg up on admissions.
