Child care near Kentlands

Anonymous
I’m looking for a child care situation near Kentlands starting this summer. We will have a 4 year old and an almost 1 year old. We love our current provider but are moving and it would be more convenient to switch. It doesn’t seem like there are a ton of options out there though. Any recommendations?

There are a lot of options. Are you looking for a center? We’ve been at Goddard since DC was an infant and we really like it.

I have heard great things about the NIST child care center

Goddard, Kindercare and Nanda are near by

Thanks all. We prefer a center. We reached out to Georgetown Hill and were a bit shocked by the prices. Waiting to hear from NIST and Nanda. Reaching out to Goddard and Kindercare now.

Appreciate any feedback about these options - pros/cons.

Goddard is having their spring fling event this Saturday. It’s basically a carnival, and they will have tours of the school. If you’re available, it would be a good way to see the school and meet a lot of current families.

NIST is not open to the public to enroll. And they stay very full regardless.

OP have you tried using the Maryland Family Network's search tool (https://locate.marylandfamilynetwork.org/Family/login - you don't need to create an account, just put in your email address and it will allow you to search)? It allows you to see all the providers on a map shows prices for those providers that report them including Georgetown Hill, Goddard and Kindercare. You can also see their EXCELS rating and other accreditations which is helpful too. You should also look up the licensing inspection history at http://checkccmd.org/

We have had a great experience at Kidsco Jr. but I am not sure any of the locations will work for you - unfortunately the one closest to Kentlands only serves kids 2 and up. Emory Grove or Fallsmead serve 0-5 but they are a bit further away.

Academy Child Development Center at Stone Mill is a few miles away from Kentlands, near the Travilah shopping center. I have two enrolled there and we've had a terrific experience so far.

I second this recommendation.

Actually it is though with low priority

Children are offered spaces according to the following priority categories:

A. Children (dependents) of Federal NIST employees

B. Children (dependents) of non-NIST Federal employees

C. Children (dependents) of NIST Associates

D. Children with a grandparent, aunt or uncle who is a Federal NIST employee

E. Children (dependents) of U.S. citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents, who are not in the priority categories above

I know people who fit one of the categories above E and have been on the waitlist for years.

Even our friends, one of whom is a NIST employee, waited 2 years to get off the waitlist.

Is anyone familiar with the childcare at Bar-T Thurgood Marshall?

Interesting. We know someone who go in after much less than a year. They are feds but not NIST. It's always worth a try, you never know if the stars will align for you.
