RMS Titanic sank early this morning after hitting an iceberg

Early reports from the wireless are that about 1500 people are lost. The survivors are en route to New York after being rescued by another ship. What does [1912] DCUM think?

That they would never travel on a floating petri dish.

Oh the humanity

The Moskva Russian military ship sank on this anniversary yesterday.

Note to self - this is not a good day to engage in maritime activities.

My 7 year old is obsessed with the Titanic and it’s sister ship the Britanic.

May their souls Rest In Peace. I guess all the survivors have since passed away, as well.

They'd be obsessed with the classes of the travelers.

“I don’t get why everyone didn’t evacuate immediately?! If it were me I wouldn’t have waited for orders, I would have been up on the deck getting in a lifeboat! I heard the lifeboats were only half full anyway, why didn’t they just get in a lifeboat?”

How to be first class, but understatedly so.

The flagship Moskva apparently collided with one (possibly two) domestically-produced Ukrainian cruise missile. It caught fire and later sank.

Time for Putin to go.

At the time people were absolutely shocked. Brand new ship going down on a maiden voyage was unthinkable. The ship had already received significant media coverage for the launch so the update that it sank was a huge story.

The other thing is everyone just assumed the Atlantic was busy enough they wouldn't need to load all the passengers onto the lifeboats, but rather ferry them to another ship.

There were some controversial stories like Ismay's survival and some very tone deaf statements by people like the Duff-Gordons. There was a microcosm of society playing out as the wealthy had a higher survival rate than the poor (more than half of first class lived, a quarter of third class did).

Also imagine also if a bunch of prominent billionaires died (Astor, who again had been in the media due to his recent divorce and remarried to a much younger woman)

Cannot possibly be true. God himself couldn’t sink that ship.

Were many of the victims from first class? Will there be some movement on the college waitlists?

And more importantly, are the houses listed yet?
