Why does this keep happening?! I am so horrified and it makes me nervous to take my dog out on walks. I've been mugged at gunpoint for my wallet and phone (not in DC) and that was traumatic enough, I can't even imagine if they wanted my buddy.

Frenchie puppies can sell for up to 15K.
My puppy (a maltipoo) is very cute and multiple people have aggressively offered to buy her or threatened to steal her. They'd have to kill me first. |
| How sad1 I hope they find them soon. The 11 week old is prime socialization time so it could really hurt the dog in the long run ( it the dog survives) |
My puppy attracts attention every day on her walk, and people almost daily say they are going to steal her - I don't actually take them seriously! SMDH. |
Well, it does happen, so a bit of vigilance can't hurt. When someone tries to pick up my dog, I firmly tell them to put her down immediately. |
| Did they find the other dog too? |
| Goodness, people will steal anything. |
| This is huge in the UK, a pandemic of it's own - there have been hundreds of reports of stolen puppies and adult dogs for the past 2 years. |
The other one is a French bulldog named Bruno. We don’t talk about him. |

It’s Good Friday. I shouldn’t be laughing. |

Nobody ever does the reporting I want in these situations. I want to know so much more about what leads to a 15 year old stealing a puppy and carjacking two vehicles. They’re not good crimes. They don’t lead to anything. And obviously there’s a whole family involved and someone connected to the apartment where the puppy was called the police. I would read 10,000 words about the apartment and the family but those stories I guess are not easy to report. Is that a kid who’s at his breaking point and goes on a spree of self-destructive chaos? Or is he under the direction of the adults involved? Or is he masterminding his own crime empire and just terrible at it? I was on a carjacking jury once and I got a little insight but still not much because obviously it’s not good for your defense to explain why you carjacked a car you’re claiming you didn’t.
I can still remember one article where they followed up on a drive by and talked about the path of the guns and the grandmas and moms who were aiding and abetting and hiding weapons, and that was so helpful. |
