Glam Shots

Anonymous
My DC just committed to a college, and I'm looking at a social media site where they are supposed to post pics, etc.
OMG - I did not realize that I need to get a glam shot for my DC. Also, I see a few pics posted that have bedrooms decorated with ceiling to floor college merch. as some sort of college reveal.

Do most parents get pics for college stuff and announcements? DC is our first kid in college. Not sure what we should be doing. Would love to hear what others are doing.

That’s stupid. I have seen these pics too and I’m not buying all that crap to do a college reveal for social media.

Haven't seen this at all. Most of my friends are saying..."my kid doesn't want me to post on social media but they are going to xyz university."

It can pretty out of hand ...too "extra" is the term I heard DD use for these over the top displays. Something low key is fine.

Five college grads. We did none of that nonsense.

DC would sooner run naked through campus than post anything of the sort.

MYOB.

-Someone whose child never bought merch at their university

I think the glam shots are for kids to pick their roommates ahead of time. That’s too much pressure to put on a kid, and so superficial. I like the way Stanford does it. They match students with roommates and don’t allow them to choose.

If you have an iPhone 11 or 12 or newer and maybe a ring light, you can take these shots.

LOL!! My kid exactly!

So glad to read that this is not a necessary thing.

Not necessary, but I have lots of friends who have professional "graduation" photographs taken of their Senior. It's a thing that predates social media.

Those kids are headed for Greek rush. Assuming your kid is not one of those, you can disregard.

We are throwing a party with a gender reveal cake with the school colors inside and letting off chalk guns of the school colors! I’m making sure to get cookies made and serving bbq since that’s what NC is known for.
