Public school - More resources, more academic and athletic choices, plenty of amazing and kind kids to befriend, and zero expense. |
Also, more students needing these resources. |
+1. It's also generally not free to live in-boundary for a super well-resourced public school. |
And? |
It's not free to live anywhere. |
Not sure you’re getting a better deal. That’s all. |
Without listing one specific school - which could be used to identify the poster - I know of several schools to which kids I know moved on to. Good council, Bullis, Landon, Baltimore friends, glenelg country school, park school of Baltimore, Sienna School, and public to name a few. There isn’t a shortage of options in this area. |
Bullis and Landon are more expensive. Park School is very good if you don't mind spending a lot of time driving. Glenelg is not a very good school. Montgomery County Public Schools are excellent. We are happy at SSFS. |
Public School is free. SSFS and most private schools in the area are 38K+. How is public school particularly in the highly rated Montgomery County Schools not a better deal? |
The question was where are people going. Those are the places people are going when they were NOT happy at ssfs. Of course if you’re happy at ssfs you aren’t looking elsewhere. But for the ~100 kids who left ssfs they were NOT happy there. |
Not everyone who changes schools does so because they arre not happy. We know 34 families who left since 2022 and none left because they were unhappy. One family went back to public school after the pandemic. One family never planned to stay for high school. One family left because they moved and the drive to SSFS was no longer sensible. And one family left when the tuition increased.
Yes of course some people leave SSFS because they are unhappy. But let's.nit speculate the reasons people leave unless you know their reasons. If you are personally unhappy with SSFS then you are free to share that here and share your reasons as many have shared. But stop over generalizing and speculating. |
Sorry. We know 4 families, not 34. Typing before morning coffee! |
Okay, sure, you got me, I didn’t do an exit interview of each and every family that left last year, when the number of not re enrolling and withdrawing families was higher then the previous several years combined. Some families have already withdrawn this fall.
However of the reasons for departures that I do know from people - The recent years erratic tuition increases, higher than the long term average yearly increase, and higher then the yearly increases of comparative schools. Pushing the tuition to over 40K without a comparative increase in programmatic offerings The US curriculums dearth of elective offerings compared to schools at a similar pricepoint Better athletics programs offered at similar price point Better arts program options at similar price points Merit scholarships or higher financial aid offered at comparative schools The schools underhanded way of withholding the announcement of key admin departures (like the US head) until after contracts were due The lack of discipline in the classroom that effected the learning environment for their child The schools inconsistent or outright nonexistent efforts in addressing repeated bullying faced by their child Post pandemic elimination of normal metrics of academic achievement measurement that made it difficult for their child to learn skills necessary to compete in institutions after ssfs Poor maintenance and ignoring long needed repairs of the facilities Toxic work environment and lack of support for the teaching staff leading to a drop in the quality of teaching These are common recurring reasons that I did hear from multiple families leaving last year. |
SSFS parents, some of you need to check yourself. You all are coming off as bullies whenever parents say they are not having a great experience now that RG is gone. It’s ok for people to have an experience that is different from yours. |
Soe people post about their positive experiences at SSFS while others counter that with their negative experiences and vice versa. That's fine and not what I would consider bullying. The problem is when people post beyond their own personal experiences and speculate about the experiences of others or over generalize their own opinion to apply to the masses. And when posters are taken to task for doing that or for posting numbers as guesses, they get defensive and either suggest bullying or suggest that this forum is only accepting of posts that are glowing about the school.
Please speak about personal experiences whether positive or negative. Please do not speculate or over generalize. Please ask questions. Please do not make assumptions about the motives of other posters. If you are here with the hopes of SSFS succeeding regardless of whether you are a current family or not and regardless of how you feel about SSFS right at this moment, I personally am glad you're here. If you're here to just bash the school then you should check yourself. |
