Desantis is scrambling to wipe the egg off his face. Everything is so interwoven that the solution of levying/prison/second amusement park won’t be as simple as it sounds. Another Florida resident here. I live in Orlando, and while Orange County went blue last election my enclave of friends love him. I mean just think he's the greatest. One acquaintance is now "no longer doing Disney" because her cult leader tells her to hate them. It's profoundly stupid and short sited. Hate gay people all you want but then a. we won't be friends, which is fine, but b. do it on your own time.

Orlando exists as a major city because of the tourists that Disney draws

Disney World sits on 40 square miles of land owned by Disney. The prison idea is asinine because the property at the edges of Disney property is expensive. The businesses around it survive on the tourist traffic. High priced toll roads would cause the same problems for businesses in Osceola and Orange counties.

If he really wanted to do it, he could use eminent domain to seize land for it. The point is that it would be the most petty asinine politically suicidal action that a governor could possibly make

Sure. And the state would pay a fortune. That land is worth a lot. Disney would fight to get every penny.

And it's not like it's translating into a huge surge of support - he's losing, badly, to Trump at this point. Disney World sits on 40 square miles of land owned by Disney. The prison idea is asinine because the property at the edges of Disney property is expensive. The businesses around it survive on the tourist traffic. High priced toll roads would cause the same problems for businesses in Osceola and Orange counties.

If he really wanted to do it, he could use eminent domain to seize land for it. The point is that it would be the most petty asinine politically suicidal action that a governor could possibly make

Sure. And the state would pay a fortune. That land is worth a lot. Disney would fight to get every penny.

That would depend on if Disney ever fought an assessment. Hard to argue a patch of swamp is worth hundrends of millions when you just argued that it was worthless

That land is worth money because Disney spend the money to develop it. I was in Florida before WDW opened, and that part of the state was an empty swamp.
