No. Just no.

No painted nails. No butterfly backpacks. No long girl hair. Just no.

So glad this has not been an issue for us.

So many disappointing and uptight people in this thread. Wow. Quite sad and unbelievably surprising.

Or just people who have a different opinion than yours.

Soooo many people like to think a "different opinion" is ok, even when its damaging and wrong.

Please don't do this to your kids. Try to love them for who they are, not who your outdated and hateful "opinions" would have them be.

Or, watch them leave.

What possible difference does it make? I feel so so sorry for the kids of anyone for whom this presents any sort of issue. Disgusting

Personally, I don’t like it.

And I think it’s partly because I know that the kid has asked for it and the parents don’t have the boundaries to say no. Therefore his nails are painted. The actual nail painting has no effect on me it just tells me who rules the roost.

Boundaries?? Who the F cares if the kid paints his nails? Would you let a girl do it? Or does she need boundaries for this terrible activity - nail painting.

No, I would not.

Loosen up. Really.

Ditto. It’s called different parenting styles. Try and be open minded. Like I said, it has no effect on me but I don’t like it. She asked for my thoughts so there you have it.

Nice try to clean up your mess. You said parents that allow it have no boundaries. Which is different than saying we all have our own parenting styles. Oh and let’s be open minded.

Oh, yeah, I stand by that. Can’t say “no” to the kid but that’s my opinion of the parents and I also said painting has no effect of me. It’s like when I see kids wearing their Halloween costumes in the spring time. It’s cute, but I can also tell those are the parents who can’t say no to the kids. She asked for my opinion and there you have it. I’m not sure why you’re so upset about it. Whatever, who cares! Have a nice day.

With kids, you pick your battles. They do need some say in their lives.

Highly recommend the picture book “Sparkle Boy” for any boys who might want a bit of sparkle…my own son is more into dressing in Colonial clothing than being sparkly, but he loves that book when he was 4 and 5 and when some of his friends would come to school with sparkly clothes or fingernails, the would compliment them and recommend the book!

I prefer no cosmetics including nail polish until age 12-13. Any gender.

I don’t care what others do but happy mine didn’t ask to try. I would try to talk him out of it if he did, but if he were insistent I would let him.
But getting so excited about painted nails might be a subtle sign... OP may not know yet.

Things like painted nails and pink and glitter =/= gender =/= sexual orientation.

My brother is a big amateur boxer type, married with 3 kids. He used to paint his nails as a teen to him with anxiety biting. He'll let his little girl painted his nails still.

We are way too rigid in gender expression for little boys. We eased off on expectations for little girls, we need to do it for boys too.

Also, not being straight isn't a bad thing so wringing hands.over the potential of a kid potentially growing up to be gay is frustrating.

when is see this I am surprised it’s polish and not paint or marker. That might be a little mean but I kind of expect little boys to not be exact on something like this and actually go and get mail polish and just use whatever to put color on their nails.

back in the 80d when i was a kid there was some horror movie where the kids fingernails turned black. Lots of boys in my catholic school class broke out sharpies to do their nails black to scare other kids. usually younger ones. And then there were some boys one year who basically dyed their whole hands green on accident bc they were playing incredible hulk. And I had a friend who tried to use spray paint on her toes. So yeah nail polish on little kids is pretty benign imo.
