I thought we were complaining about "The Leader in Me" on this thread. Why are we getting hijacked by the "CRT" complainers?

White nationalist types like John McWhorter? https://johnmcwhorter.substack.com/p/you-are-not-a-racist-to-criticize

I have enjoyed reading John McWhorter's writings about linguistics, which is his field of expertise. Have you read any of them, or do you just like linking to his writings about politics that you agree with?

McWhorter. Kendi. We can often find something objectionable even if someone has something useful to teach.

Nine Nasty Words was fantastic and is interestingly becoming even more relevant today as wokes try to redefine common words to suit their agenda. This is one of the things that makes McWhorter a great person to speak out against CRT and other woke lunacy. But back to my point. Is JM a white nationalist?

SEL is simply a dog whistle for CRT.

Fox has turned their cultural warriors loose on CRT, so everything is CRT!

Stupid is as stupid does.

Back to the topic at hand, I think this Leader in Me training is okay but it's quite dated and isn't really SEL. I think MCPS missed the mark on this one.

What is Social-Emotional Learning? We toss it around without ever really discussing what it means or what sort of outcome we want from a curriculum.

https://casel.org/faqs/

SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.

They're a vendor. Their definition will fit their products!

No, CASEL is a nonprofit that evaluates and recommends SEL programs, not a vendor. The vendor for the product selected by MCPS is Franklin Covey.

PP's point still remains. CASEL is all-in on SEL because it's what CASEL does.

No, CRT is CRT. For example, a teacher saying "I refuse to teach books written by white men" is a teacher practicing CRT. Saying "whiteness is a system of oppression" is an equity division employee practicing CRT. A principal assigning Stamped, a book written with the purpose if indoctrinating kids to accept policies and practices that will discriminate against them for being white is practicing CRT.
